Muse Mentor Visits

SEACoast hosts an annual visit by an eminent scholar of Southeast Asia for a multi-day event including public lectures, paper workshops, and group meals with faculty and students.

Slow Seminars

To work across differences, build language-in-common, and design collaborative studies, SEACoast will hold regular Slow Seminars. In these seminars, scholars, artists, and researchers working across different fields and mediums gather to discuss pre-circulated shared readings that inspire curiosity and create space for interdisciplinary and serendipitous insight.

Light snacks and refreshments will be served at all Slow Seminars. Please contact us at seacoast@ucsc.edu for accessibility and accommodation queries/requests.

Potluck Salons

Through the informal and friendly setting of Potluck Salons, SEACoast offers lively discussions of works presented by visiting scholars, not to mention generous potluck offerings from attendees. Visiting scholars will offer a brief visual presentation of their work, followed by a free-flowing discussion with attendees.

Field Exercises

Part of the SEACoast mission is to encourage multidisciplinary attention to anthropogenic land and seascapes and to bring diverse scholars together to better understand coastal interactions. As part of this mission we host semi-regular “field exercises” where we gather for joint natural history field trips, share insights and methods, and work to better understand coastal interactions at work here in California.
